Today I enjoyed some really great garlic salsa: Ashley Creek Farm Extra Hot Garlic Salsa. The salsa has a great kick of heat, some sweetness and of course the best part is the garlic! I normally can’t stand cilantro, which is one of the ingredients. In this case the mixture is such that the cilantro enhances the flavor and doesn’t kill it.

I love garlic and I love heat. This one is a winner.

A long day at the office… My mega brain has so many brain cells that it needs a regular flow of fuel.

Today’s very satisfying fuel was the Red Devil flavor of Monty’s Beef Jerky. This is very good jerky. There’s a hit of smokey flavor, some salt and of course some heat. The heat is the best part. My mouth is watering just writing this food blog post!

I’ve got a few more of Monty’s flavors to test out but if they’re close to as good as the Red Devil flavor I’m going to be a happy camper…

MUDBUG Original

I just had some wings with MUDBUG’s Griff’s Swamp Sauce Original. This is a fine BBQ sauce with a great combination of smokey, sweet and some heat. I could use more heat, but that’s the story of my life…

MUDBUG is great! I picked a winner this time.

Honestly, I have about 456,021 bottles of BBQ sauce to review. You can only eat BBQ so often. But today is one of those days! RIBS! The lovely lady and I had ribs today and used Lazy T’s Gourmet BBQ Sauce.

This sauce is very good. The sauce is very thick. You can practically put the bottle upside down and it slowly creeps out. The flavor is both sweet and smokey. A very good combination. Spicy would be good, but it the sauce is great without any heat.

Thanks to Lazy T’s for sending in the sauce. Now I’m off to wipe the BBQ sauce out of my keyboard…

I have a confession to make. I’m addicted to Tonya’s Smokey Bacon & Cheddar Gourmet Cheese Spread, especially with these flattened pretzels I have here. What a yummy snack.

The spread comes in a 12oz tub and is great as a snack, on sandwiches or anything you can imagine a cheese spread on like potatoes, hamburgers or even in soup. Tonya’s website even has some other ideas on using the spread in recipes. I’m going to give the potato soup a shot soon.

Price: $5.99

Yesterday for dinner I had the pleasure of chomping on Cook!’s Real Simple Delicious Red Lentil Veggie Soup. Let’s take a look at Cook! and the chompalicious soup.

About Cook!

Cook! is an Oakland based company and is the brainchild of Singapore native Nona Lim. The offerings are gluten and dairy-free.

The Soup

I’m surprised I enjoyed the soup as much as I did, as I find that typically these kinds of food are drab and plain tasting. Though the labeling on the package says there are 1.5 servings inside, I chomped the whole thing down no problem. The soup had a hearty taste, made sweet by the carrots, which I normally despise. The wife was impressed that I ate carrots.

Preparation couldn’t be easier. Dump the soup into a pot and heat it up. That’s it. It is so easy that my dad, who doesn’t know which side of the bread to put the peanut butter on, could do it!

Conclusion

Cook!’s Red Lentil Veggie Soup is very tasty and good for you too. Highly recommended.

Related

Stay tuned for more Cook! chomps!

This is a very tasty mustard with a uniquely yummy personality. The mustard comes in a squire bottle (pictured) which makes it easy to deliver.

Ringhand’s is located in Evansville, Wisconsin. They don’t seem to have a web site (I can help with that!) but I did find them on Facebook here.

2 Brothers Medium Chipotle Flavor Salsa

It has been 48 hours since I opened my first bottle of 2 Brothers Chipotle salsa. The bottle is now empty. Nobody else in the house had any either. I ate the whole thing myself, in two days.

This sauce has a sweet taste, but smokey due to the chipotle. Chopotle is a smoked chili pepper. The sauce is not hot or spicy at all. Usually that is a negative score for me, the lover of the hottest foods on the planet. But this sauce is so tasty that I don’t care if it is hot. Now, the ultimate would be a HOT version of this one!

Good At Salsa, Bad At Web Design

The 2 Brothers website is located at www.2brotherssalsa.com. While 2 Brothers makes great salsa, their web design skills are not good. The site loads mega slow, because they haven’t resized their images. And most, correction, ALL of the links like product pages and contact pages are broken. It looks like a really bad do-it-yourself job.

Conclusion

Web critiques aside, 2 Brothers Chipotle salsa is a definite winner. Loved every bite and I even licked the bowl!

Tonight’s din din was a nice combination of pasta noodles and sauce by Pasta Mama’s.

About Pasta Mama’s

Pasta Mama’s began in 1986, when Diane Santillie made pasta in her kitchen and took it to her work, at a gourmet cafe and gift shop. She couldn’t make the pasta fast enough for the shop’s customers. Customers in the shop called her “Pasta Mama” and that’s how it got started.

Fast forward nearly three decades and Pasta Mama’s now offers a ton of fine pastas and sauce mixes. I’m happy to say I’ll be devouring about 17 of them. Two down, 15 to go.

Garlic Basil Pesto

First is the sauce for tonight, garlic basil pesto sauce. This sauce is so easy to make it is crazy. A few tablespoons of water and oil and mix. That’s it. No heating or anything. The sauce is fairly strong, so not a lot is needed for full flavor.

Tomato Basil Linguine

Pasta Mama’s makes some great pastas, much more interesting than plain offerings you find in the stores. Tonight’s is a pasta that takes a whopping 2.5 minutes to cook, the tomato basil linguine. The bride and I loved the noodles.

Conclusion

Between the ease of the pesto sauce and this pasta, this is a great tasting and original meal which takes less than five minutes.

Born To Hula’s Habanero Ancho Chili sauce is a fantastic blend of sweet and hot. The sweet comes from Ancho chiles, while the heat comes from habenero chiles. I’ve completely devoured this bottle, putting the sauce on everything from chips to burritos to tacos to pizza. I like my sauces hot and could use more heat, but most people think I’m crazy. The wife thinks there’s the perfect amount of heat in the hab-ancho.

I devoured this bottle so fast, that I didn’t even give myself time to take a photo of it. So I had to use the stock photo from Born To Hula.

Here’s how Born To Hula describes this sauce:

Habanero Ancho Chili Sauce (Voted best sauce at Peppers at the Beach Tailgate Party 2012)
“Medium Heat”
Ancho chilies are the sweetest of the dried chilies. Along with ancho chilies, BTH added fresh red bell peppers, habanero peppers and spices to give it that sweet with medium heat everyone enjoys. This award winning sauce is a must have on every table.
